Gary Retires

In December, long time Voyager Alliance Director, Gary Robertson, retired from the Board after 22 years loyal service. Gary has been a huge supporter and advocate of our credit union for many years and has worked tirelessly to benefit members, old and new.

Gary joined the Merseyside Passenger Transport Employee Credit Union as a member in 1999, before it changed its name to Alliance Credit Union. In July 2002 Gary joined the Board of Alliance Credit Union, and when Alliance merged with Voyager Credit Union in 2006, he switched to the new Voyager Alliance Credit Union Board. Gary was influential in Voyager Alliance joining the Penny Post Group in 2022 and had served on the Penny Post Group Board since February 2022.

A bus driver for many years, and still working part time for Arriva St Helens, Gary is well known across our membership and has always strived to put members first. An ardent supporter of credit unions and the unique way they help members improve financial resilience, Gary has always embraced the wider credit union movement to benefit members, including a learning visit to Georgia Unite Credit Union in Atlanta.

“We attended their AGM and Event Day, and were inspired by the enthusiasm of everyone involved, from the Cheerleaders chanting the credit union motto … ‘What do we do… serve, what do we do… serve’ to the passion and leadership skills of the CEO, Deborah, who personally knew every member of her Team and their family”, remembers Gary.

A proud, loyal man, Gary is always prepared to go the extra mile to help others. He was instrumental in getting canteen services up and running at Runcorn and has always done everything he could to get the best facilities possible for colleagues. Over the years he’s been actively involved with the union and the social committee, as well as all the help he’s given our credit union.

So what plans does Gary have for his extra time?

A huge family man, spending more time with his wife Gill, family, and beloved grandchildren, will be a priority, along with his cats, Ant and Dec.

A keen Manchester United fan, he’ll hopefully find time to watch more matches, and having almost completed his third house renovation, perhaps more DIY is on the horizon? He’s also joined the Arriva socials walking club, so will hopefully now have time to enjoy the countryside with friends and colleagues.

On behalf of all members, we’d like to thank Gary for all he’s done over the years.  Enjoy your retirement, Gary, you deserve it, and we’re going to miss you!
