The Dolores Beckford Award

We were so proud of Jas when she won the Dolores Beckford Award last weekend at ABCUL’s Annual Conference.

The Dolores Beckford Award for Outstanding Contribution by a Woman of Colour is a prestigious achievement in the name of the late CEO of Crownsavers Credit Union, Dolores Beckford.

Dolores made a tremendous impact on credit unions in her local community, and the credit union sector was rocked when she passed in 2021.

In memory of Dolores, credit unions chose to name an award dedicated to the achievements of women of colour in the sector, and we were thrilled when Jas was the recipient of the first ever award.

Jas was “proud and honoured to have won.” She continued to say “I have spent a lot of time (including a lot of my personal time) developing myself personally and professionally, from volunteering with the local west midlands forum to completing the CU Futures Programme and it’s lovely to be recognised for this. I have used the skills learnt to develop myself and help others in the team develop as that is the type of leader I want to be. The support from my friends and peers within the sector, who continually inspire and support me has been amazing!”

Jas joined us as a Customer Service Apprentice and is now our youngest ever Chief Operations Officer. To name just one of Jas’ achievements, back in 2020, Jas joined ABCUL’s Young Professionals Network Steering Committee and helps arrange learning sessions for other young people working in credit unions.

Dolores’ contribution to credit unions will forever be remembered, so it was an honour when Jas’ achievements were recognised on a national scale in memory of Dolores.

Well done Jas!
